Report 6th premiere evening Internationals Art Channel Hall 1 Cinecitta October 3, 2024 – presentation artist video portraits: Simon Haen, Helma Melis, Jeroen van Vliet.
Once again, during the sixth premiere evening on October 3rd, of the three new artist video portraits in the oldest monumental cinema hall in the Netherlands, Hall 1 of Filmtheater Cinecitta in Tilburg, was filled to the brim. Unfortunately, dozens of people who had made a reservation had to be disappointed because all available seats were already occupied. It is unbelievable that the interest in the presentation of the series of three artist video portraits of the Internationals Art Channel is growing so quickly! The digital platform www.int-artchannel.nl is now also continuously consulted by many thousands of people worldwide. In short, the permanent insight into the artistic manifestation from Tilburg – region – Hart van Brabant, appeals to the imagination of many, thanks to the initiative
taken in 2022 by artist / designer / publicist Jan Doms (editorial) and filmmaker Tom Pijnenburg (camera and editing).
Portrait 16: Simon Haen (decor – artist).
Simon Haen studied theatre design at the art academy in Tilburg and won the Perspectief-Travel and the Tilburg-Stimulation Award (2nd). After graduating he worked for Theater ‘Theks’ and Theater ‘De Vorst’ and to this day for many theatre and dance companies. He was seen in the
famous television programme ‘Klokhuis’ (‘Clock House’) and made a name for himself with an extensive and lively oeuvre of ‘automata’.
Portrait 17: Helma Melis (dancer / choreographer / ‘total’ artist)
Helma Melis is the driving force behind dance company ‘LaMelis’. She creates the choreographies, designs the decor and costumes, and chooses the music. In her working
method, image, movement and content are created synchronously against the background of social phenomena. Dance and environment are inextricably linked and the content is a sum of all these elements.
Portrait 18: Jeroen van Vliet (pianist / composer)
Jeroen van Vliet ‘s music teacher had Jeroen improvising at the age of ten. At the conservatory he studied classical music as his main subject. That was a tough switch after the freedom he was used to, with ‘intuition’ as his course. He plays in many combinations worldwide and received the
Boy Edgar Prize in 2014: “Van Vliet is one of the few great poets of Dutch improvised music.”
For the second time, thanks to residents of AZC Gilze, there were contributions by way of musical intermezzos from Iranian musicians Berdia Heydari on guitar and vocals and the duo Jalal Hadadi on santúr (percussion zither) and Hamid Alwandi on tár (long-necked lute). Just like the artist video portraits shown, these musicians were greeted with warm applause.
There was also applause for the thousandth visitor of the premiere evenings. She, Maryam Heydari from Iran, had come along with the group of visitors from the AZC with the help of the volunteer organization ‘VIP voor elkaar’.
Then host Peer de Graaf, who introduced the films and musicians to the audience in his well-known inimitable way, concluded the wonderful evening with a hint to those who appreciate the Internationals Art Channel, to make use of the possibility to make a donation of their choice

Verslag 6e première-avond Internationals Art Channel Zaal 1 Cinecitta 3 oktober 2024 – presentatie kunstenaars-videoportretten: Simon Haen, Helma Melis, Jeroen van Vliet.
Wederom was tijdens de zesde première-avond op 3 oktober jongstleden van de drie nieuwe kunstenaars-videoportretten in de oudste monumentale bioscoopzaal van Nederland, Zaal 1 van Filmtheater Cinecitta in Tilburg, tot de nok gevuld. Helaas moesten tientallen mensen die reserveerden, teleurgesteld worden omdat alle beschikbare stoelen al bezet waren. Ongelooflijk dat de belangstelling voor de presentatie van de series van drie kunstenaars-videoportretten van het
Internationals Art Channel zo snel groeit ! Ook het digitale platform www.int-artchannel.nl wordt inmiddels continu door vele duizenden mensen wereldwijd, geraadpleegd. Kortom de bestendige inkijk in de artistieke manifestatie vanuit Tilburg – regio – Hart van Brabant, spreekt tot de verbeelding van velen, dank zij het in 2022 genomen initiatief van kunstenaar / ontwerper / publicist Jan Doms (redactie) en filmer Tom Pijnenburg (camera en montage).
Portret 16: Simon Haen (decor – kunstenaar).
Simon Haen studeerde theatervormgeving aan de kunstacademie in Tilburg en won na zijn afstuderen de
Perspectief-Reis en de Tilburg-Stimuleringsprijs (2e prijs). Werkte voor Theater Theks en De Vorst en tot op
de dag van heden voor vele theater en- dansgezelschappen. Was onder andere te zien in het befaamde
televisieprogramma ‘Klokhuis’ en maakte naam met een uitgebreid levendig oeuvre van ‘automaten’.
Portret 17: Helma Melis (danser / choreograaf / ‘totaal’-kunstenaar)
Helma Melis is de drijvende kracht achter dansgezelschap ‘LaMelis’. Zij maakt de choreografieën, ontwerpt
het decor en de kostuums, en kiest de muziek. In haar werkwijze ontstaan, tegen de achtergrond van
maatschappelijke fenomenen, beeld, beweging en inhoud synchroon. Dans en omgeving zijn onlosmakelijk
met elkaar verbonden en de inhoud een optelsom van al deze elementen.
Portret 18: Jeroen van Vliet (pianist / componist)
De muziekleraar van Jeroen van Vliet liet Jeroen op zijn tiende jaar al meteen improviseren. Op het conservatorium volgde hij het hoofdvak klassiek. Dat was hard schakelen na de vrijheid die hij gewend was met intuïtie als koers. Hij speelt in vele combinaties wereldwijd en ontving o.a. in 2014 de Boy Edgar Prijs: “Van Vliet behoort tot de paar grote dichters van de Nederlandse geïmproviseerde muziek.”
Voor de tweede keer waren er dank zij bewoners van AZC Gilze bij wijze van muzikale intermezzo’s,
bijdragen van de Iraanse muzikanten Berdia Heydari op gitaar en zang en het duo Jalal Hadadi op santur (slagciter) en Hamid Alwandi op tār (langhalsluit). Net als de getoonde kunstenaars- videoportretten werden deze muzikanten met een warm applaus onthaald.
Ook was er applaus voor de duizendste bezoeker van de première-avonden. Zij, Maryam Heydari uit Iran, was met medewerking van de vrijwilligersorganisatie ‘VIP voor elkaar’ meegekomen met de groep bezoekers uit het AZC.
Vervolgens sloot gastheer Peer de Graaf, die de films en musici bij het publiek introduceerde op zijn bekende onnavolgbare manier, de prachtige avond af met een hint aan
degenen die het Internationals Art Channel waarderen, om ter ondersteuning gebruik te maken van de mogelijkheid om een donatie naar keuze te doen.
